OPPO just came out with a new budget phone called the A18. They’re trying to appeal to folks who want a lot of bang for their buck without breaking the bank. This thing might just do the trick! I’ve been putting it through its paces to see if it can really deliver reliability on a tight budget. Here’s what I found in my OPPO A18 review.
Oppo A18 just launched in Bangladesh and comes in one configuration with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The price is set at 13,990 Taka, so it falls into the more affordable category.

The OPPO A18 has a similar design to other recent A series phones. It has a smooth, ergonomic shape with flat edges that feel nice in the hand. On the back, there’s a raised area that holds the two cameras. Below that is a glossy strip that says “INNOVATIVE AI CAMERA”, which some may think is a little cheesy.
My review unit is the Glowing Blue color, which is a nice sky blue. When the light hits it, the color really pops. You can also get it in Glowing Black.
OPPO says they put the phone through rigorous testing in their lab to check durability. It has an IP54 rating for resistance to dust and water splashes from any direction. So this phone should hold up to accidental spills or getting caught in the rain without issue.
On the left side are the volume buttons and fingerprint sensor that also works as the power button. The right side has the SIM and microSD card slots. On the bottom are the headphone jack, microphone, USB-C port, and speaker grill.
So I was checking out this new phone from OPPO called the A18. It’s got a 6.56 inch screen which is pretty big! The refresh rate is 90Hz which makes everything feel super smooth. Resolution is 1612 by 720 pixels.
Now I know what you’re thinking, the resolution isn’t the highest these days. But honestly it gets the job done for basic stuff like browsing online, checking social media, watching videos on YouTube – all looks good. If you want something really crisp for movies though, you might want to look elsewhere.
That said, the screen on the OPPO A18 is actually pretty nice. Colors look accurate, you can see it clearly from almost any angle. And even in direct sunlight you can see what’s on the screen cause it gets up to 720 nits of brightness when you crank it up.
Overall the display is decent and fits the price point of the phone I think. Might not be the sharpest out there but for most people it’ll be more than suitable for everyday use.
Speaker on this thing is actually pretty decent. It’s got a downward facing driver that provides a nice full sound. You can definitely turn it up loud too – it’ll go to 300% volume! Only thing is, it might start to sound a little thin or tinny if you have it blasting at the highest levels. But honestly, for a little built-in speaker, it does the job well.
If you want some privacy though, you’ve got the audio jack too. Just plug in your headphones and you’re all set. Nice thing is you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone around you. Really comes in handy on a plane or train when you want to rock out without bothering the people next to you. Audio quality stays great with headphones too.
OPPO A18 has a decent camera setup on the back. You’ve got your main 8-megapixel shooter and a 2-megapixel depth sensor to help with portraits. Around front is a 5-megapixel camera tucked inside that teardrop notch.
The rear camera performs like you’d expect from an 8-megapixel sensor. Pictures taken during the day come out with nice detail and accurate colors. However, it really struggles once the sun goes down. Low-light shots tend to be a bit soft and grainy.
Up front, the selfie cam has a 20% AI retouching feature. Selfies look smoother with that turned on but there’s barely any difference if you turn it off. Overall, the front camera takes good quality selfies as long as the lighting is decent. Lighting really makes a big difference in the quality you’ll get from both cameras.
OPPO A18 has the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. This chip has two powerful cores and six efficiency cores made with 12-nanometer technology. It’s already three years old now. It comes with 4GB of regular RAM, and OPPO gives you another 4GB of virtual RAM with 128GB.
ColorOS 13.1 based on Android 13 powers the phone. I was surprised that it didn’t have as many pre-installed apps as OPPO’s more expensive phones. You can tell the chipset has been around for a while, as things didn’t always feel super smooth even with the 90Hz screen.
Gaming performance shows the age too. Lighter games like Mobile Legends and Wild Rift play okay with minor stutters. But a demanding game like Genshin Impact is really choppy on the lowest graphics, though you can still play if you’re determined to make it work.
This thing has a massive 5000 mAh capacity, which was really impressive. I was able to use it all day long for browsing, social media, music, games, and photos without it dying on me. After 12 hours of regular use, it still had 25% left!
Now the charger that comes with it is only 10W, so it does take a good 2-3 hours to fully power it back up. But OPPO has this neat optimized charging feature that helps extend battery life. Basically, it learns your charging patterns and waits to finish the last 20% until right before you normally start using it again. So you can just plug it in overnight and wake up to a fully juiced up phone, ready to go for another full day.

The OPPO A18 is a good basic phone that will last a long time. It’s durable enough for everyday use and has a water-resistant rating. You get 128GB of storage right away, and you can add more with the microSD card slot. So you can store lots of files and photos. The battery life is also good for long periods of use.
However, it’s not very powerful, especially for games. The screen doesn’t have as high a resolution as other phones at this price. Also, the camera is basic, so don’t expect great photos from it. But overall, it works well as a simple phone for basic needs.
